Last Saturday we made our way up to Al Khor. Located 50km north of Doha, the name of the area means creek in Persian. As you can imagine, a desert environment with a creek – it is gorgeous.

Our plan was to explore the new area and hit the fish market for some fresh produce. The drive along the highway was a great start. Listening to music in our comfortable four wheel drive, I looked out and saw flat plains that stretched to the horizon. It was barren and simple but had a way of evoking endless wonder.

The fish market was an interesting place. We bought quite a few fish and the fish mongers handled the fish unmistakable expertise. Whole fish became beautiful fillet slices in a moment.

The drive along the beach and the docks was lovely too. The spread of fishing boats and local dhows gave a charming village feel. Lunch was fabulous! We sat under the shade and sipped our iced lemon tea. The shack was a little shabby but it gave a warm local feel. Fresh fish and chilli calamari – it was a seafood delight.

It was a wonderful day out, enjoying the simple things in life with the people I love. Sometimes, the most enjoyable moments are the little ones.
